What is the Insurance Institute of Uganda (IIU)?

 

How many course units does one need to do to complete a Programme?

The Insurance Institute of Uganda (IIU) is the training arm of the Insurance industry in Uganda. It is licensed by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) and all its courses are accredited by law.

 

Vision; To be the leading Insurance training institution in East Africa and beyond.

Mission; To raise professional knowledge, skills, assist in career development among members engaged in insurance in the East African region and beyond.

 

1.   Certificate of Proficiency – 2 courses

2.   Certificate in Insurance – 5 courses

3.   Diploma in Insurance – 9 courses

 

However, those that apply for a Diploma in Insurance & already have a Certificate in Insurance may apply for exemption of up to 2 courses at the diploma.

 

Who can study at the Insurance Institute of Uganda (IIU)?

When are the study intakes?

 

·       Anyone wishing to have a career in insurance.

·       Anyone with a sciences or arts background

·      Those with long term ambitions of assuming managerial responsibilities in the insurance industry

·  Those wishing to develop their knowledge & understanding of insurance business.

 

Admissions take place twice a year for each of the programmes.

January & July for the Certificate of Proficiency & Certificate in Insurance.

April & September for the Diploma in Insurance.

Each period of study takes approximately 2 months for one to complete a course.

What are the entry requirements into these programmes?

 

Does IIU have study centers?

 

1.   Certificate of Proficiency & Certificate in Insurance O level (UCE) certificate with a minimum of three passes

2.   Diploma in Insurance A level (UACE) certificate with at least one principle pass and two Subsidiaries OR a Certificate in Insurance from a professional insurance institute OR any other qualifications e.g. degree, diploma or a professional course that will be assessed by IIU.

 

Yes, IIU has study centers at;

1.   Kampala (morning, evening, weekend)

2.   Gulu (weekend)

3.   Mbale (weekend)

4.   Mbarara (weekend)

How does one apply to study at IIU?

 

 

Step1: Pick an application form from the Institute or print out one from the website on www.iiu.ac.ug

Step2: Fill out the form, clearly following the instructions as required.

Step3: Return the filled form to the Institute but also carry your original academic documents along for verification by an Institute’s officer.

Step4: Ask at the Institute’s front desk when you will pick your admission letter.

Step5: When you return to pick your admission, letter make sure you pick a course payment slip from the accounts office for invoicing & clearance.

Step6: Ask for a teaching timetable and then begin attending classes.
