Insurance Institute inspires secondary school students at Farm Camp                                                                                                                   .

IIU proudly participated as part of the sponsors for the event. The 6 year old initiative brought together up to 1200 participants from more than 100 schools across the country.

This is part of IIU initiatives to extend insurance education to secondary schools and universities through establishing insurance clubs. The event was therefore a central point of access for more than 100 secondary schools from different regions in the country.

IIU was represented by Head of Training and Research, Mr. Jonan Kisakye and Public Relations and Marketing Officer Ms Agnes E Nantaba. Kisakye who was one of the presenters at the camp emphasized the role of professional career guidance for insurance related courses.

“In this ever competitive world, you should always look for improvement in a virgin area like insurance,” said Kisakye.

“Taking up a professional course in insurance at IIU enables you to acquire more advanced and better skills”.

He emphasized the role of career guidance as an essential step in identifying the real potential and guiding students towards a right career path.

The week-long camp running from Friday July 26 to July 24th was officiated by Buganda Premiere Charles Peter Mayiga who stressed the need to change mindset of young people towards agriculture.

Schools exhibited their agricultural project including diary projects, rabbit rearing, poultry, mushroom growing, value addition projects such as baking cakes and other confectioneries. These were assessed on originality of the exhibitions, lessons drawn from the previous farm camps, innovations, clear submissions and expressions, viability and sustainability of the projects among others.

Best students from different categories received various medals and prizes including IIU branded note books.

Acting Head Teacher of Gayaza High School, Agatha Ssenyonjo, thanked sponsors like IIU and facilitators like Kisakye for impacting practical sessions. The annual farm camp aims at promoting youth involvement in agribusiness development
