The Insurance Institute of Uganda (IIU) in Conjunction with International Health Sciences University (ISHU), have launched an Advanced Certificate in Health Financing and Insurance at a colorful ceremony held at ISHU head office in Namuwongo.  

The goal of the four months course is to equip students with knowledge, skills and positive attitudes in health financing and insurance Services.

In her remarks Dr. Rose Clarke Nanyonga the Vice Chancellor of ISHU noted that the emerging demands in the area of Insurance prompted them to start this course so as to support the country population have access to health care and thus the role needs champions to support lobbying for health insurance at a national level.  “How critical is it to learn about Health insurance in Uganda?” she asked.

She was thankful to all the partners especially IIU for their efforts to see the kick off of this amazing course and she is always looking forward to building further engagements for the success of  health insurance in the country.

Jonan Kisakye, the Head of Training and Research noted that the Institute is very glad to have partnered with ISHU in a bid to promote Health Insurance and hence working hard towards the growth of the sector. “We are willing to grow this partnership so as to have many ambassadors for Health Insurance in our Country and we need to focus on working with other Institutions for example Ministry of Health to have the Health Insurance law in place”

He was happy to note that the programme had started and he pledged support towards the success of this four months project.

 

Prof. Robert Basaza, the associate Dean, School of Public Health highlighted  that the course will focus on five key thematic areas which include; Health Services& Financing, Health economics & Health Insurance, Foundations of Insurance, Operations &types of Health Insurance as well as Field attachment and Report writing. He further noted that the course has attracted over 15 pioneers from different areas of expertise.
